Home heating help available for North Dakota, Minnesota residents – INFORUM

BISMARCK — North Dakota’s Health and Human Services agency is reminding North Dakotan and Minnesota residents who may need help paying their winter heating bills that they can apply for assistance.

Depending on a household’s needs, the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program may also help pay for weatherization services, such as home insulation and weather stripping around doors and windows; furnace cleaning, repair or replacement; and chimney inspection and cleaning.

Emergency assistance is also available to prevent service shut offs.

In North Dakota, individuals may apply for LIHEAP and other assistance online at

www.hhs.nd.gov/applyforhelp

, locally at a human service zone office or by mail. For help applying, call 1-800-823-2417.

In Minnesota, individuals must apply through their local energy assistance partner,

which can be found at mn.gov/commerce/consumers/consumer-assistance/energy-assistance/eap-provider.jsp.

Both homeowners and renters may apply. People in subsidized housing, or who are receiving housing assistance with their heating costs included in their rent, are not eligible for LIHEAP.
